Mrs Ami Sutarwala is the Principal Dentist at Dalkeith House Dental Practice, with over 20 years of clinical experience in general, restorative and aesthetic dentistry.

Ami qualified with a Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS) in India in 2003 and practised there before moving to the UK. After completing the Overseas Registration Examination (ORE) in 2008, she began practising in the UK and has continued to develop her skills through extensive postgraduate education.

She is passionate about providing gentle, modern and personalised dental care, with particular clinical interests in implant dentistry, restorative and aesthetic dentistry, adult orthodontics and the care of nervous patients.

Implant & Restorative Dentistry

Ami has undertaken extensive postgraduate training in restorative and implant dentistry, including a two-year course in Restorative Dentistry under Professor Paul Tipton. She has also completed a further one-year certificate training programme with the Practical Implantology team, developing her theoretical knowledge and practical skills in implant dentistry.

She provides implant treatment from initial assessment and digital treatment planning through to implant placement and restoration.

Her restorative experience allows her to look beyond simply replacing a missing tooth. She considers the health of the whole mouth, including function, bite, aesthetics and long-term oral health when planning treatment.

Ami particularly enjoys helping patients with worn, damaged or missing teeth. In more complex cases, she can combine different areas of dentistry to restore function, protect remaining teeth and create a natural-looking, confident smile.

Aesthetic Dentistry, Orthodontics & Smile Improvement

Ami has a longstanding interest in aesthetic dentistry and smile design and has undertaken additional training in smile design, including training with Dr Ash Parmar.

She has particular experience in adult orthodontics and provides both fixed orthodontic appliances and clear aligner treatments, including Invisalign, where clinically appropriate. Her previous orthodontic training has also included systems such as C-Fast and the Inman Aligner.

By combining orthodontic, restorative and aesthetic techniques where appropriate, Ami can plan treatment around each patient’s dental health, functional needs and personal goals.

Her approach is centred on creating healthy, balanced and natural-looking smiles while preserving natural tooth structure wherever possible.

Supporting Nervous Patients

Ami understands that visiting the dentist can be particularly difficult for patients who are nervous or have had challenging dental experiences in the past.

She is trained in intravenous conscious sedation and can provide IV sedation for suitable patients who are particularly anxious or who are undergoing more involved dental procedures.

Her gentle and reassuring chairside manner is an important part of her approach. She takes time to listen, explain treatment clearly and allow patients to feel comfortable and in control throughout their dental journey.

Facial Aesthetics

Alongside dentistry, Ami has undertaken training in facial aesthetics and provides a range of facial aesthetic treatments following an individual consultation and assessment.

Her experience in smile design and facial aesthetics complements her approach to aesthetic dentistry, where treatment is carefully planned around the individual rather than following a one-size-fits-all approach.

She continues to undertake postgraduate education to keep her knowledge and clinical skills up to date and to incorporate contemporary techniques and digital dentistry into her practice where they can benefit patients.
